Job Summary Responsible for performing manufacturing procedures and executing diverse tasks in various processing areas such as biology, microbiology, biotechnology, medical technology or biochemistry.
Follows regulatory requirements as well as policies and procedures of the business.
Safely and efficiently executes daily tasks related to extrusion manufacturing of synthetic absorbable and non-absorbable multifilament products.
Typical tasks include start-up, operation, and shut-down of extrusion and orientation processes, thread-up and doffing of production spools, testing of products, and troubleshooting of processes.
Duties & responsibilities Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position.
Executes and monitors manufacturing processes according to operational procedures.
Establishes priorities based on production schedule.
Participates in cleaning equipment and clean rooms as necessary.
Takes readings of equipment and systems.
Verifies and interprets parameters to ensure compliance.
Takes samples and performs tests during process according to standard procedures.
Participates in projects focused on process development and/or improvement, cost controls and new product manufacturing.
Performs equipment maintenance, conditioning, standardization and calibration as needed.
Troubleshoots equipment issues.
Handles, stores and disposes of hazardous and nonhazardous materials incompliance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
Handles chemicals appropriately using required safety equipment.
Participates in the execution of validation/revalidation protocols.
Essential Functions Tests fiber denier and performs tray testing as required and when necessary, troubleshoots process equipment and takes appropriate corrective actions.
Operates and navigates with the extruder computer control systems.
Operates the Vac-U-Max polymer feed system and troubleshoots to eliminate feed problems.
Starts up and runs extruders and affiliated equipment (godets, orientation lines, kamitsus, Statimats, Denier counter, etc.) to produce denier VICRYL*, denier VICRYL* Mesh, PANACRYL*, and Ethilon fiber.
Monitors equipment through measured checks of speeds and temperatures.
Perform multiple quality checks at orientation per shift to check fiber quality.
Support general cleanliness and fiber/ lube buildup of extruders and lube godets.
Track extruder run time to understand proper troubleshooting for extruders.
Makes appropriate process changes using the extrusion process specification and troubleshooting guide in conjunction with directions from a higher-level Extrusion Process Operator or supervision.
Demonstrate Intermediate Troubleshooting skills.
Manages the operation of six or more extruders running at the same time Demonstrate flexibility and willingness for continued training.
Demonstrates consistently effective job performance that encompasses good quality and quantity of work, and dependability.
Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties assigned as needed.
Monitors equipment through measured checks of speeds and temperatures.
Makes appropriate process changes using the extrusion process specification and troubleshooting guide in conjunction with directions from a Senior Extrusion Process Operator or supervision.
Records production data for tracking and evaluating run yield trends, actual yield, and audit progression.
Handles hoppers or port-a-vacs appropriately, weighing and recording data to track polymer usage.
Makes appropriate process changes using the extrusion process specification and troubleshooting guide and as directed by management.
Starts up and runs extruders and affiliated equipment to produce VICRYL* fiber using split stream or dual take-up and PANACRYL* fiber.
Monitors environmental room conditions and initiates corrective actions as needed.
Determines temperature start-up profiles based on IV and MI values and polymer history.
Troubleshoots extruders (working closely with engineering support) and affiliated equipment and takes appropriate corrective actions to eliminate quality process issues.

Advanced knowledge of CAMSTAR data system and inputs data as required.
Monitors environmental room conditions and initiates corrective actions as needed.
Monitors run yield trends, identifies process issues, recording appropriate information, and effectively communicating this information to support personnel, at shift change, and to management.
Demonstrated ability to execute protocol activities on the shop floor.
Coordinates the efforts of others in their proper job function to minimize waste and maximize production yields.
Work effectively in a cross-functional team environment with all interactive groups (ex.
Direct team members, management, and engineers).
Oversee and coach associates through basic performance problems.
Coordinate and lead day-to-day activities in the production manufacturing area as necessary, in alignment with immediate or direct supervision.
Lead daily crossover meetings.
Responsible for delivering departments outputs daily for assigned shift.
Monitor assigned area and reallocate resources as necessary to meet schedule requirements within the department including raw materials and departmental supplies.
Collaborate with Supervisor on all department performance and operator issues, coordinating priorities with on, shift Leads.
Train New personnel in the area.
Responsible for training adherence for the shift.
Responsible for cleanliness of the area and lube pots.
Prepare weekly staffing plan for the area and coordinate job rotation for each shift.
Order Raw Materials from warehouse as needed.
Support others in troubleshooting equipment issues.
Leads Crossover meetings.
Responsible for extrusion plan attainment.
Provides recommendations and opportunities for OEE improvements.
Promotes a safety focused culture and the Good Saves program within his Shift.
Ensures that employees within shift are adhering to GMPs, GDPs and acting in accordance to their process specifications' current revision.
Responsible for ensuring sustainability of the 6S program.
Responsible for maintaining all assigned work areas safe, clean and in good operating condition.
Opens work orders if repairs are required in the facilities or the equipment.
Reports any associates who are not behaving in accordance with the J&J established policies to the Line Facilitator or Manufacturing Manager as applicable.
Escalates any major safety, quality or equipment downtime situation to the Shift Line Facilitator or the Manufacturing Manager as applicable.

Ensure cross shift participation.
