General Summary The Sr Manager, Engineering & Design for Infrastructure Systems will be leading the Engineering and design activities on Facility Infrastructure systems such as plant chilled water, electrical, steam, etc and clean utilities (e.
.
Purified Water, Water for Injection, Compressed air, HVAC, etc) for Johnson & Johnson’s large, strategic capital projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions) The Sr.
Manager will be accountable for providing technical direction, coordination and alignment of infrastructure systems for complex projects in alignment with our J&J E&PS Subject Matter Experts.
This role is responsible for defining, identifying and securing appropriate tools, internal and external technical resources and coordinating the efforts of technical team members and third-party design firms or consultants to deliver the infrastructure aspects of projects according to plan.
You will also participate in setting project operational strategies, work on completing project focused goals and objectives, and personal and team talent development to enable execution of activities within the Global and Regional E&D function.
Key relationships include working with JNJ Operating Company Teams and E&PS Project/Design Managers to ensure appropriate Design elements of projects are accurately implemented by third party Architectural Engineering firms.
Working with J&J SDP SMEs, J&J EH&S, Security, Procurement, Risk Management, Quality, and GHS to assure their requirements clearly understood and are incorporated into the design.
Accountabilities Prepare/Review Requests for Proposal (RFP) for Architect/Engineer (A/E) services and leads A/E interviews/selection and on-boarding process Provide support to develop our standard JNJ contract with AE Firms for engineering and design work Lead the design process for Infrastructure system design including (Arch, Mech, Elec, Building Automation, etc.) working closely with operating company team and J&J SMEs.
Assure that the IDEA Project Delivery Process is followed Work with the E&D Director, Project Dir./Project Mgr.
to drive the performance (cost, schedule, quality) of A/E firm and define correction action plans if necessary Establish plans for personal talent development, diversification, and professional development Develop personal yearly regional goals and objectives that support the overall J&J E&PS goals Execute short- and long-term tactical engineering initiatives and programs based on strategic project goals and objectives Assure use of the Value Improving Practices, Value Engineering and Constructability Reviews Assure the appropriate J&J standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements (cGXP, EHS, …) are incorporated Coordinate/lead key design reviews with SMEs including other corporate or affiliate resources such as EHSS, Risk Management, WW Security, etc.
Assure that the J&J Standard Design Platforms are deployed on all projects.
Setup project specific training for internal and external SMEs Assure projects meet the J&J Sustainability policy and drive the certification process Review AE progress and identify action plans where required.
Implement Earned Value tracking on larger projects.
Ensure AE issues Monthly Reports Lead effort to resolve key design misalignments in construction and commissioning phase with appropriate SMEs Participate in the final close-out with the A/E firm including the Lessons Learned process Qualifications Education.
University / Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Engineering is required.
Master’s degree in Engineering or Business or equivalent preferred.
Experience Required.
Minimum of twelve (12) years of related experience in Engineering, Operations and/or asset management activities required.
Preferred.
Our preferred candidate for this role will have experience working with Bio-Process Pharmaceutical Manufacturing facilities and systems, architectural systems and finishes, clean/plant utility and HVAC systems and brings.
Experience working in a lead role at an AE Design Firm or directly leading an AE Firm on a large capital project.
Proficiency in project/design management, including acquiring agreement on project definition and priorities, and ensuring that resources, capabilities and processes are in place to deliver the design efficiently and effectively.
Global experience is helpful.
