SENIOR GEOLOGIST, COMMERCIAL

May Reporting to the Manager Commercial, the Senior Geologist, Commercial, will be responsible for contributing value through Exploration valuations and evaluations, techno-economic modelling and assessment, and asset management.
The incumbent will champion the evolution of strategic commercial valuations through the application of sophisticated financial and geological modelling techniques to guide investment decisions, evaluate internal assets and inform strategic greenfield exploration decisions.
In addition, the position will also provide support for a range of commercial activities including capital market research & analysis, negotiations & transactions and the development of reports and presentations to Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
The Senior Geologist, Commercial will work closely with Exploration Directors and Country Managers on various asset management initiatives and will collaborate closely with internal groups including Corporate Development, Treasury, and Tax for various internal and external initiatives.

Responsibilities Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures  Develop framework for techno-economic modelling of different deposit types across various jurisdictions, including capital and operating cost estimates Apply techno-economic modelling to help define economic discovery thresholds in exploration areas and to identify/evaluate third party projects of interest to Teck’s exploration group Review business evaluations to identify critical value and risk drivers and assess sensitivities to critical assumptions Support in-depth multidisciplinary geoscientific data analysis to assess project quality and exploration upside potential and makes related techno-economic recommendations Combine and analyze geological information with financial/legal/tax information as part of third party opportunity or internal asset reviews Assist collection and management of global data regarding key operational activities, financial data, and exploration assets Assist asset management activities, including market research, marketing strategies/preparation, and coordination with jurisdictional managers Assist the maintenance of Commercial’s transaction databases Support technical and business updates on equity and royalty holdings and companies/assets of interest Prepare presentations and information packages to assist management in decision making Support capital market analysis, including valuation multiples and capital structures for publicly traded junior, operating, and royalty companies Support opportunity identification for portfolio holdings within the context of prevailing market conditions and relevant portfolio strategy Support Teck’s “partner of choice” approach and philosophy with respect to partnering, joint ventures, and transactions, including relationship management and market positioning Support monitoring and analyzing the position and activity of competitors within the industry across commodities and jurisdictions Qualifications Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Geologist (P.
eo) with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering, and 6-10 years of relevant industry work experience An MBA or a CFA (or pursuing the CFA) is an asset but not a requirement Proven experience working with mine plans and/or financial and geological models, and understanding of key inputs Ability to review and analyze mineral exploration press releases, regulatory filings, feasibility studies, NI reports, investor presentations and analyst reports in order to perform analysis leading to investment decisions Ability to understand key deposit value drivers such as deposit geometry and ore distributions, geo-metallurgy and structural frameworks Understanding of mining methods and mineral processing Ability to integrate quantitative valuation analysis with comprehensive qualitative factor analysis to arrive at a recommendation Why Join Teck? $   The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
