The Utility Operator is responsible for using equipment for the assembly and processing tasks to produce finished products according to established specifications.
Accountable for adhering to all quality and safety guidelines.
The Braid Utility operator is responsible for the processing of braided non-absorbable sutures in operations including skeining, tubing, singeing, hot stretch, coating, waxing, braid cleaner, hacoba, sipp and inspection.
All activities must be completed in accordance with process specifications and procedures.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position.
· Operates production equipment to produce subassemblies or finished products.
· Assists with set up of equipment.
· Assists with quality control inspections of products on assembly line.
· Cleans equipment as needed.
· Notifies supervisor of maintenance and/or repairs needed on equipment.
· Prepares accurate records/documentation related to work in progress.
· Reports production problems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Skeining/Unskeining.
· Set-up and operate skeining/unskeining machines within requirements.
· Transfer material from braided spools onto skeins for Dye Process.
· Transfer material from Skeins to spools for Wax Process.
· Lease skeins and identify for dye process with appropriate color identification.
· Prepare required spool identification labels for further processing.
· Execute tasks in Camstar System.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Tubing.
· Set-up and operate tubing machines within requirements.
· Associate tubes with tags to each lot in Camstar.
· Identify lots with appropriate color identification for scour process.
· Apply leader material to inside and outside of spools.
· Prepare required spool identification labels for further processing.
· Execute tasks in Camstar System.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
Singeing.
· Set-up and operate singeing machines within requirements.
· Record gas and air settings from machine as needed per specification.
· Perform operational checks as necessary per specification.
· Prepare required spool identification labels for further processing.
· Execute tasks in Camstar system.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Hot Stretch.
· Set-up and operate Hot Stretch machines within requirements.
· Perform tension and heat checks on machines per specification and record as necessary.
· Verify all necessary readings on machines.
· Prepare required spool identification labels for further processing.
· Execute tasks in Camstar system.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Inspection.
· Perform inspection by use of electronic device to check the quality of the braided material.
· Verify diameter readings are within range for suture size using hand-held gauge.
· Identify, remove, or repair all defects to ensure highest quality standards are met.
· Perform minor adjustments on inspection machine sensitivity to specifications.
· Prepare required spool identification labels for further processing.
· Pull and submit required samples for QA testing.
· Package inspected spools for sending out to customers.
· Execute tasks in Camstar system.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Coating.
· Weigh and mix coating solution according to specification requirements.
· Perform test and calculate percent solids on coating solutions using appropriate test method and record results daily.
· Set-up coating equipment and run suture material through coating drops.
· Maintain coating solution in tanks and have a droplet of solution suspended on coating heads at all times.
· Maintain process control charts in room.
· Clean coating equipment as needed per specification.
· Log in lots to be tested for QA.
· Perform diameter testing on non-absorbable braided sutures for final disposition.
· Execute tasks in Camstar system.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Waxing.
· Operate waxer unit to wax silk or nylon sutures.
· Prepare wax according to the specifications.
· Add wax to melt pots to maintain desired levels.
· Cut and change wipes.
· Execute tasks in Camstar system.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Hacoba.
· Select appropriate color bobbins and material for product.
Assign lot numbers.
· Load Hacoba machine with yarn and empty bobbins.
· Verify tension of hacoba line and hacoba strokes.
· Place bobbins on trays and carry to braider room.
· Prepare identification labels and place on trays of material for lot identification.
· Execute tasks in Camstar system.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Sipp.
· Operate Sipp machine for bobbin winding silk.
· Place silk onto “swifts”, add proper weights and wind onto bobbins.
Follow same procedure to wind core spools.
· Place bobbins on trays and carry to braider room.
· Execute tasks in Camstar system.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Braider Cleaning.
· Clean braiders, benches, and other related equipment using specified solvents and cleaning materials.
· Maintain a cleaning log.
· Schedule and communicate braiders due for cleaning.
· Blow off fiber lint from braiders using an air hose.
· Execute tasks in Camstar system.
· Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.
· Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.
· Complete daily cleaning of area and machines.
Departmental Floater.
· Must fully cross-train on all tasks listed above.
· Fill in for associates (vacation, absence, floating holiday, etc.).
· Assignment will be made at the start of the shift to determine which job task associate will be assigned.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES.
· Work in team environment behaving in a CREDO based respectful manner.
· Comply with all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary.
· Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions.
· Use test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, etc) where applicable.
· Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.

ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.) · Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE’s), if applicable · Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives.
· Support Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care.
