Project Overview Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant.
We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal.
Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.
Position Summary The mechanical systems lead is responsible for a team performing engineering design deliverables to close out condition reports and non-conformance reports.
The lead will also be involved with specialized requirement matrix verification and resolution of quality assurance concerns for the High-Level Waste Facility.
This position requires interface with groups across the project, supporting Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC).
Responsibilities Manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
Provide direction to discipline work group consistent with project/program.
Develop and revise Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and mechanical system formal calculations.
Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
Support the PEM/PE/EGS on interfaces with DOE, DNFSB, WDOH, and Ecology.
Complete assigned engineering tasks within budget/schedule and support identification and development of engineering trends and BCPs in discipline area.
Support and implement the nuclear safety quality culture in day-to-day work activities.
Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications Level I.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with 6 years of experience.
Level II.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with 9 years of experience.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
(Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
Additional Qualifications Requires extensive technical knowledge and understanding of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials, applications of computer software to engineering problems to ensure the design is cost effective, in accordance with applicable safety, health, environmental regulations, customer requirements and engineering codes and standards.
Must have working knowledge of Bechtel Engineering procedures and BPS.
Nuclear experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-A, or ISO-.
Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.
Related experience includes but is not limited to experience in performing calculations and design, including documentation, related to hydraulics, equipment sizing, and overall system design for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
Experience in processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities preferred.
Professional Registration in Mechanical, Nuclear or Chemical Engineering.
Knowledge of Bechtel corporate guides and standards.
