Project Overview.
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.
.
Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State.
The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects.
Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.
This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and will ultimately work a rotating 4 x 12 day-shift schedule, 5.

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc.
(BNI) and Amentum.
WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.
Position Summary.
Under management supervision, the Industrial Safety and Hygiene (IS&H) is responsible for implementing and administering project industrial safety and hygiene programs affecting employee, public safety and occupational health.
Serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses; under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of IS&H disciplines to achieve compliance with S&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements; exhibits knowledge and applies fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of IS&H; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of IS&H programs, systems and procedures; monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area; investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards; conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs; provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice; may provide guidance for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel.

Responsibilities.
Provide technical support to safety studies, health assessment studies, and project risk assessments.
Coordinate appropriate consideration of safety requirements with subcontracts, engineering, construction, startup, and maintenance personnel as assigned.
Provide safety technical support and assistance to projects and coordinate safety requirements and formulation of risk reduction measures with project-assigned safety personnel, engineering, construction startup, maintenance, and onsite S&H representatives.
Conduct Industrial Hygiene monitoring with guidance and direction from the Industrial Hygienist.
Participate in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety requirements that may affect project design, schedule, and cost.
Draft comprehensive S&H plans, project specific risk reduction plans, safety awareness training programs, and technical reports.
Provide recommendations and input for revising safety procedures, work processes, and other quality improvement measures.
Be flexible in performing other duties or shift within S&H (e.
., training, emergency response activities, as directed by the Project S&H Manager or designee.
Conduct safety inspections/assessments of project activities to monitor compliance with applicable safety and health requirements including contractual commitments, permits, and the project’s S&H plan.
Qualifications and Skills.
Basic Qualifications.
Bachelor's degree in ES&H/Management or related science/engineering field from an accredited college or university and 9 years of safety related experience Or a Master's degree in ES&H/Management or related science/engineering field from an accredited college or university and 7 years of safety related experience.
In lieu of formal degree, 15 years of progressive related safety experience.
Minimum Qualifications.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
Candidates possesses the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
Knowledge of OSHA standards, procedures, rules and regulations.
Advanced skills in facilitation, verbal, and written communication.
Proficient knowledge of software applications creating spreadsheets with mathematical functions and enhancing presentation reports.
Knowledge of planning, estimating, procedures, and subcontractors or consultants.
Experience in safety inspections/assessments.
Knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risk exposures and Personal Protective Equipment standards.
Experience in Safety & Health program development and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications.
Prior experience working in a government, nuclear, chemical processing, petroleum refining, industrial, or EPC environments.
Experience working within a Department of Energy project environment.
Related experience includes, but is not limited to, working in conjunction with Safety Committees, and/or VPP.
Experience in safety engineering industrial hygiene.
Knowledge of People Based Safety processes and procedures.
Knowledge of Bechtel’s organization structure, functions, and administrative procedures.
Knowledge of Bechtel standard computer applications.
